Xicheng Yang

Xicheng Yang is a Chinese type designer and researcher based in the UK. She graduated with distinction from the University of Reading’s MA in Typeface Design in 2022 and completed her doctorate there in 2026. Her research focuses on digital typefaces for Tangut, an extinct script used in northwestern China from the 11th to 13th centuries.

She has worked on multi-script projects across Latin, Chinese, and Japanese Kanji, redesigning Noto Serif Tangut for Google Fonts and creating AraTangut. Her typefaces have received recognition from New York TDC, Tokyo TDC, and the New York TDC Young Ones. She also presents and publishes research internationally.
