About TypeTogether
Established in 2006 by Veronika Burian and José Scaglione, TypeTogether is an independent, cosmopolitan type foundry rooted in a shared belief that type should combine strong personality with rigorous functionality. The founders met while completing their master’s degrees in typeface design at the University of Reading, UK, and their collaboration grew from a mutual respect for typography, research, and thoughtful design.
TypeTogether specialises in typefaces for demanding editorial environments, in both digital and print, where readability, technical performance, and character need to work together. The foundry brings together a multinational team of designers, engineers, language specialists, and other collaborators working across cultures, scripts, and continents. This deliberately flexible structure allows each project to draw on a broad range of expertise while maintaining a clear and consistent design vision. Collaboration is particularly important in TypeTogether’s growing body of multiscript work, where each writing system is developed according to its own traditions while contributing to a coherent typographic whole.
TypeTogether’s internationally awarded catalogue ranges from expressive retail families to extensive multiscript systems, as well as custom typefaces developed for organisations seeking a distinctive typographic voice. Past clients include Apple, Google, McLaren, Siemens, Vivo, Geely, and Oxford University Press.
Through its diverse, curated font platform, the foundry creates innovative and stylish solutions to current problems on the professional typography market. The foundry’s approach is not to separate function from expression, but to find the point where they become mutually reinforcing.
Convinced that education and encouragement are great ways to put good into the world, TypeTogether takes an active, educational role in the wider type community. Apart from lectures, workshops, research, and publishing, the foundry provides mentorship and support to one promising type design graduate through the annual Gerard Unger Scholarship since 2015. For Burian and Scaglione, type design is a collaborative and evolving discipline, one that connects languages, cultures, technologies, and people. Their work seeks to make that connection both useful and meaningful – creating typefaces that perform exceptionally well, communicate clearly, and remain distinctive wherever they are read.

TypeTogether combines design expertise with research and technical precision. The foundry is also active in education and type community initiatives, including the Gerard Unger Scholarship, supporting the next generation of type designers.
FOUNDERS
Veronika Burian born in Czech Republic, is a product and type designer running the international foundry TypeTogether with co-founder José Scaglione since 2006, today with eighteen core team members working around the world. She graduated from FH München, Germany, in industrial design and holds a MA with distinction in typeface design from the University of Reading, UK. Veronika is one of the founding members of Alphabettes and was one of the mentorship organisers. She is vice-president and co-chairwoman of the GRANSHAN foundation, co-curator/organiser of TypeTech MeetUp, gives lectures and leads workshops at conferences and at universities around the world, and mentors the new talents in type design.
José Scaglione from Rosario, Argentina, is a typeface designer, lecturer and author specialised in typography. He co-founded TypeTogether with Veronika Burian, where they have published numerous award-winning type families. José has authored books on type design, legibility and typesetting, and frequently acts as a guest lecturer and workshop leader at global conferences and universities. He is a former president of the Association Typographique Internationale (2013–2017), and co-directs the MA in editorial design at the Universidad Nacional del Litoral.
