Maithili Shingre

Maithili Shingre is a type designer and calligrapher working across Indian scripts, with a focus on Malayalam and Devanagari. A graduate of Sir J.J. Institute of Applied Art, she spent over a decade at Ek Type before starting her independent practice in 2023.
A TDC Ascenders winner in 2024, her work has also been recognised by TDC, Communication Arts, D&AD, Granshan, and others.

Maithili has contributed calligraphy for multiple Indian scripts to the much-loved manuals published by Aksharaya, an NGO dedicated to raising awareness about Indic scripts. Drawing inspiration from the letterforms and visual culture around her, she designs with an eye for detail, creating forms that are culturally rooted yet distinctly fresh. These days, when she’s not designing letters, she’s mostly running after her toddler.
