Yue Chen

Yue Chen is a type designer, researcher, and educator from China’s Tujia minority. She is pursuing a PhD in Typeface Design at the University of Reading and teaches at the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute. Her research explores multilingual typography and the digital development of Yi, a traditional script of southwestern China, combining typographic research, Unicode, and font technologies.

Her practice spans Chinese, Latin, and Yi type design, with work recognised by the Founder Type Design Awards, Hanyi TypeStar, Morisawa, New York TDC, Tokyo TDC, and other international competitions. She also presents research internationally and contributes to typography education, translation, and the preservation of Yi’s cultural heritage.
