Introducing Rezak Armenian and Rezak Georgian

Inspired by visits to the Caucasus and the strong book culture in both Armenia and Georgia, Anya Danilova decided to add Armenian and Georgian to her tactile and versatile Rezak family. Rezak Armenian and Rezak Georgian join their Latin and Cyrillic counterparts to provide graphic designers with a fantastic set of options for multiscript typography.

And it’s Rezak’s design approach that is deceptively simple – the high-impact Black and Incised weights have only a few cuts, but as the weights get lighter, the number of cuts grows. Rezak Armenian and Rezak Georgian carry this logic into the two South Caucasus scripts, always approaching them with equal doses of respect and inventiveness.

Rezak’s Black and Incised display styles are perfect in situations of impact: websites, headlines and large text, gaming, call-outs, posters, and packaging. Try these two in logotypes, complex print layering, branding, and words-as-pattern for greater experimentation. The text styles (Regular, Medium, Bold, Extrabold) are bold, energetic, well informed, and will work well in children’s books, call-outs, movie titles, and subheads for myriad subjects such as architecture, coffee, nature, cooking, and other rough-and-tumble purposes.

Anya Danilova is a type designer based in the Netherlands. She studied at Moscow State University of Printing Arts, attending Alexander Tarbeev’s type design workshop. In 2019, she obtained her master’s degree from Type and Media at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. In 2020, she won a Gerard Unger Scholarship with her MA graduation typeface Rezak.

Her work mainly focuses on Cyrillic and Latin scripts, and her interest extends to multiscript typography. In addition to creating Cyrillic extensions, various mastering work and creating new typefaces, she writes articles about typography, researches Georgian and Armenian scripts, draws letters and makes posters for fun.
