ATypI Sharjah 2026: A century of Futura®, a global future

In 2027, Futura® celebrates 100 years of its existence. In that century, Paul Renner’s geometric sans-serif has become one of the world’s best-known type families, used in everything from automobiles to furniture stores to luxury goods. But what’s next for the beloved font family?
To answer that question, TypeTogether co-founder Veronika Burian will be joined by Bauer Types’ Vivian Hartmann for a conversation at the ATypI 2026 Sharjah conference about the immense legacy and future of Futura®, ‘Futura®100: A Century of Futura®, A Global Future’. Part of the conversation will center on Futura®100, the joint project between TypeTogether and Bauer Types to reinterpret Futura® into 23 global scripts and 90% of the world’s population.
The conversation about Futura®100 at the ATypI 2026 Sharjah conference is no accident. As early practitioners in the field of multiscript typography, we’re thrilled to see a conference programme that is packed with knowledge and inspiration on the topic, with a truly world-class speakers’ lineup. With the conference theme of Between: Tradition • Transition • Transformation, the event marks ATypI’s first gathering in Southwest Asia and North Africa (SWANA). It brings the international typography community to a region that has played a central role in the history of writing, calligraphy, manuscript culture, and multilingual exchange.

10 years of the Gerard Unger Scholarship exhibition
Also at ATypI 2026 Sharjah, we will present an exhibition marking 10 years of the Gerard Unger Scholarship, showing posters and other materials featuring winning designs from its 11-year existence. TypeTogether co-founders José Scaglione and Veronika Burian will be on hand to talk about the scholarship and our interest in nurturing new typographic talent.
